THE RACE

The Jared Coones Memorial 5K Pumpkin Run/Walk is an event for the entire family.
You don’t have to be a trained runner or walker to participate.
Join us for all of the fun before and after the 5K!

50-Yard Tot Trot / Run for the Pumpkins

Calling all kids! After the 5K is over bring your friends and family over to the East parking lot for the 50 yard Tot Trot / Run for the Pumpkins. This fun event, sponsored by the Campbell Family is free for all kids ages 1 to 5. It’s a race where everyone is a winner because at the end of each race you will get your own pumpkin to take home with you.

Awards Ceremony

Awards will be presented after the race in the Black Bob Elementary School gymnasium for the following categories:
The top three overall male and female finishers
The top male and female finishers in each age group:
Ages 7 and under, 8-10, 11-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80 and up

Three special awards will also be presented this year, including a new award dedicated to the legacy of Sumi Coones.

Medals will be provided to the age group winners. If you are unable to pick up your medal on race day, they will be available at Black Bob Elementary School following the race.

Packet Pick Up & Race registration will take place at Black Bob Elementary School on:


Thu, Oct. 10: 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM
Fri, Oct. 11: 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM
Sat, Oct 12: 6:00 AM – 7:45 AM (Race Day)

If you registered with a school running club, all your packets will be delivered to that school on 10/10/2024.
Don’t forget to bring new or gently used costumes to packet pickup to donate as part of Jared’s Costumes for Kids!

Runner Protection

Radio headsets, roller skates, in-line skates, hand/foot cycles and dogs are not allowed on the course. First aid will be available at the school.

Baby strollers and joggers are welcome on the course for walkers only. Walkers with baby strollers will start the course after all other walkers.

Parking & Shuttle Buses

General parking is available at the following locations:

  Frontier Trail Middle School, located at 15300 W. 143rd Street in Olathe. FTJHS is on the North side of 143rd St. just west of Blackbob Rd.
  Olathe South High School, located at 1640 E 151st St.

Shuttle buses, provided by First Student Transit Services, will transport race participants, family members and spectators to and from the event. Buses will run from both parking lots starting at 6:15 AM.

Please plan to arrive early!
THE LAST SHUTTLE BUS WILL LEAVE the lots at 7:30 AM.

Post-Race Shuttle Buses

Shuttle buses will resume service to the satellite parking lots at 9:30 AM. A Shuttle Bus Stop will be located on the Southbound side of Brougham at 146th Terrace (the Northwest corner of the school).
